Help SAMA celebrate student voices!

The Slug Anime and Manga Association (or SAMA) is UCSC's anime club!

We're a student organization dedicated to promoting and celebrating Japanese media, including anime, manga, and games. We aim to create a friendly, welcoming community for any folks who want to geek out!

Every year, SAMA organizes SlugCon—our major spring quarter event that aims to replicate the anime convention experience, for free!

At SlugCon, students can attend panels by fellow students and UCSC student organizations, peruse our showcase of 50+ student artists, and even be served snacks by student volunteers at our maid cafe!

Every year, dozens of students, SAMA members or not, express to us how excited they are for SlugCon—and it's clear why they are!

Want some stats? Last year, SlugCon 2025:

  • Was attended by 1,339 students!
  • Featured 59 artists!
  • Was a collaboration with eight other student organizations!
  • Featured a maid cafe, GUILTY GEAR -STRIVE- tournament, karaoke, and way more!

What's the deal this year?

SlugCon 2026 will be on May 16 and 17 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Cultural Center at Merrill!

Your generous gifts will go toward:

  • New canopies for our student artist alley!
  • Prizes for our giveaways, tournaments, and cosplay contest (new)!!
  • Venue fees for both SlugCon and its rehearsal!
  • Honorariums for our potential guest speakers!
  • Craft supplies/kits for our maid cafe, crafts table, and workshops!
  • General support for this and future SlugCons!
