Launch a student's career as a STEM educator at the Seymour Center.

Your donation will fund a UC Santa Cruz undergraduate assistant instructor at the Seymour Center’s Ocean Explorers marine science summer program. 94 cents of every dollar you donate will go directly to paying students for their time.

Your support provides hands-on career training for the next generation of marine science educators.

As part of Ocean Explorers, student instructors give youth ages 7 to 14 a week-long opportunity to actively explore the ocean. Alongside professional marine scientists and educational experts, they give kids a chance to experience the thrill of scientific discovery through UCSC’s marine research labs.

With your support, a UCSC undergraduate student will embark on a four-month-long professional development journey, including the 9-week-long Ocean Explorers marine science program.

As an assistant instructor, the UCSC student gains experience as a youth environmental science educator under the mentorship of a science education professional. While working alongside UCSC marine mammal research and training teams and plankton researchers, the undergraduate learns how to become a STEM educator by leading youth activities, guiding explorations of marine ecosystems, and fostering a safe and inclusive learning environment for participants.
