About the California Black Farmers Conference
The California Black Farmers Conference (CBFC) is a statewide gathering dedicated to honoring the past, empowering the present, and cultivating the future of Black farming in California.
This year’s conference will take place September 11–13, 2025 at UC Santa Cruz. Over the course of three days, Black farmers, food producers, land stewards, students, and allies from across the state will come together for workshops, panels, breakout sessions, keynote talks, networking opportunities, and healing-centered gatherings.
CBFC is designed to uplift Black agricultural heritage, foster intergenerational knowledge-sharing, and cultivate meaningful connections rooted in equity, food sovereignty, and land-based justice. It also aims to empower the next generation of farmers by embracing and exploring advancements in sustainable and regenerative agriculture, bridging ancestral wisdom with innovative, future-focused practices that redefine what farming can look like today and tomorrow.
This conference is organized by UC Santa Cruz student Sheyna Burns, who serves as Board President of the Square One Foundation, Lead Research Scientist at the Huey P. Newton Lab, and Executive Director of the California Black Farmers Conference.
We are currently seeking donations to help cover community meals, speaker honorarium, and farmer/ student registration sponsorship ensuring an enjoyable, impactful, and accessible experience for all attendees.
The California Black Farmers Conference is fiscally sponsored by the Santa Cruz–based nonprofit Square One Foundation and supported by UC Santa Cruz’s Huey P. Newton Lab, a student-led hub for research, innovation, and community empowerment.
