About

Why support the 2026 Festival of Monsters at UC Santa Cruz? Because monsters are more than what they seem. They help us put our world in perspective, give us insight into our darkest fears, show us how society perceives the "other," and cultivate one of the most important human emotions—compassion.

We're asking all those attracted to the weird and wonderful to give generously to UC Santa Cruz's unique research centerthe Center for Monster Studies—so we can continue to put on the Festival of Monsters in 2026. Your donation helps us bring academics, students, artists, and authors together for our annual conference and the public events surrounding it. The conference is always free for current UC Santa Cruz students, faculty, and staff, and we'd like to keep it that way.

$10 buys name tags, $30 pays for a meal for our guest artists and authors, $100 pays for our posters or programs, $1,000 helps defray the cost of recording the festival and uploading it on YouTube. Every dollar counts.

Help us keep UC Santa Cruz monstrous!
