About

City on a Hill Press has been dedicated to providing impactful news to our local community for 59 years, covering issues at the university and across Santa Cruz County. We highlight underreported issues, watchdog the university, provide a space for community members to present their views, and amplify underrepresented voices.

During the 2024–25 academic year, our staff has worked tirelessly to produce thought-provoking coverage of the attacks to DEI initiatives, budget-related cuts, and numerous labor strikes facilitated by campus workers.

In the face of a budget crisis, threats to public education, and federal repression, we are committed to delivering to our community the news it deserves. Contributions made to City on a Hill Press will support our production of printed issues, preserve our ability to provide news to the campus and city, and fund several scholarships for our unpaid staff members.

If you would like to know more about what we are doing or have any questions regarding our plans for Giving Day funds, please reach out to us at editors@cityonahillpress.com. Thank you for your support!
