About

Who are we?

The Archaeological Research Center (ARC) at UC Santa Cruz serves as a center for interdisciplinary archaeological research on the UC Santa Cruz campus and a crucial link between UCSC and the broader local community. We recognize the intricate relationships between the practice of science, its utility for exploring the diversity of the human experience, and the importance of engaging with and respecting the communities and publics we serve.

What does your funding help us do?

For only $1,000, you can send an undergraduate or graduate student to the field, support a graduate student’s preliminary laboratory analysis, or fund a workshop or public lecture. Our public programs include lectures on archaeological topics of general interest, as well as community events teaching archaeology to kids across Santa Cruz. Our workshops provide daylong instruction in archaeological methods to students on our campus, allowing them to learn new techniques. Our ARC grants provide funding for students seeking field or lab experiences.

Why does your support matter to our students?

Since launching ARC in 2014, we have raised over $100,000, allowing us to offer workshops, public programs, and grants for students. The public programs introduce students and the public to the diversity of approaches to studying our shared cultural heritage. Our ARC grants can help offset the significant costs of attending archaeological field schools, ensuring that students committed to a career in archaeology have the opportunity to follow their dreams. These grants also provide enough funding to initiate small preliminary projects in students' field of study, leading to larger grants from leading foundations.

DIG DEEP!

Your support really matters! Please help us reach our goal of $10,000 on Giving Day 2025. Your contribution will make a huge difference in supporting eager students in archaeology!
