KZSC 88.1FM is a student-run, noncommercial, educational, community radio station at UC Santa Cruz. At our core, we are curators, journalists, and advocates of inclusivity and the collaborative arts. We broadcast at 20,000 watts to over 3.2 million people in Santa Cruz, San Benito, and Monterey Counties.
As well as serving the public, KZSC Radio serves our UCSC students. Through our radio broadcast class, students gain the experience to become proficient DJs and audio producers. Through participating as staff and governing board members, our students learn leadership and teamwork skills. They also gain hands-on experience in running a nonprofit business! Through KZSC, we have provided a truly unique educational experience that provides students with a space for growth, self-expression, and advocacy.
We at KZSC share the goal of uplifting alternative and underrepresented voices in the media, and this campaign is your chance to support our broadcast training program! Each quarter we enroll a select group of motivated volunteers to participate in weekly topical lectures on FCC regulations, media law, and interview skills. Each week they also participate in hands-on practical activities and skills=building tutorials. Our students also directly benefit from six weeks of one-on-one mentorship with our experienced student leaders and community volunteer professionals. Funds raised by this campaign will help us ensure that our students have the software and hardware they need to produce high-quality audio content.
We wouldn't have been able to broadcast for 55 years without the support of our listeners! Your donation goes a long way toward training the next generation of DJs so that we can keep going for 55 more years.
These resources have been available to UCSC students for 55 years because of listeners like you, who choose to support us so generously. We hope you'll join together with your fellow fans of KZSC to help us remain self-sustaining and share your love for independent, nonprofit radio.
